tools i enjoyed using in 2024 and would recommend
Craft
My personal favorite for writing long form docs and also publish them on the web. Google docs and others are great for writing but not so much for sharing.
Craft allows you to configure custom domain and password protect the doc if needed. however what i really like about the tool is that the default writing & publishing experience is just great without having to configure a zillion thinhgs.
Typora Most of my internal docs (nortes, prd etc) follow a usual pattern and markdown is great for both reading & printing. Typora does all the job for me.
- Allows me to organize in folders
- Beautiful stylesheet for markdown (code, image, flowcharts etc)
Features
mindnode Lot of my job involves brainstorming and ideation. Mindnode is pretty easy to get started and has great themes. I especially love that after a messy brainstorm session, i can auto-organize
Zed - code editor Now that i'm back to full time writing code, AI does help you get some stuff done fast. I have played around with Cursor ,vscode + pilot but finally settled on zed. Pretty fast and allows me to configure my own LLMs.
RubyMine - code editor Rails/Ruby is my primary stack and RubyMine is my default IDE when im working with large codebases. Been using it for a few years now.
Warp Terminal Fairly new, great UX , auto completion. My only problem with that is asking to sign for a core app like terminal and AI integrations.
Hyper Terminal Been using for couple of years. Really fast. Not surprising given it comes from vercel
OhMyZsh Probbaly one of the first things i setup in a new machine.
Oh My Zsh is a delightful, open source, community-driven framework for managing your Zsh configuration. It comes bundled with thousands of helpful functions, helpers, plugins, themes
Cork Most of us use brew for managing mac utilities and there are days you wish there was a gast GUI. cork is one of them configuration. It comes bundled with thousands of helpful functions, helpers, plugins, themes
TablePlus I'm typically juggling between a dozen dbs and a nice fast UI to query/export/modify is great! TablePlus does that very well.
GitKraken Gitkraken is a simple and clean UI for managing git repos
Figma No surprise here. defactor for designing interfaces
Cleanshot X I take tons of screenshot/small recordings to share or document. The default video/ or screenshot while it works, can need a lot of effort before you can share
CleanshotX is pretty good at this especially recording and editing parts like blur text, add bg, standard aspect ratio etc
Numi calculator One of my most used apps. Use it for anything from quick calculation, conversion. What works really well is that it supports variables and hence easy to do quick equations.
Arcade Software The past few months have been mostly about recording demos of giki features and frequently sharing. While loom is great, i wanted somethingf thats look + interaction. Arcade fits that bill perfectly
Cron calendar One of the earliest apps that allowed users to create meeting links(schedule availability) without a complex flow. Today it looks like Notion acquired them.
